Really don’t have that much to say about this, other than it’s just a cliché, standard, and predictable revenge thriller.
With that out of the way, this film is still quite enjoyable, particularly if you are a fan of the Punisher. I saw the trailer for this and assumed it was a Taken spin-off with a female lead, and I'm sure that wasn't too far off from how it was pitched. Pretty aggressively mediocre, but kinda interesting sheerly for the gender-swapped take on the usual "man loses wife and child to criminals and runs amuck" plot. I thought the portrayal of Mexicans was bad enough only for them to kill their one and only black character off too. Morel also tries to preempt accusations of racism by making the two cops and an FBI agent that investigate Riley's case—played by John Ortiz, John Gallagher Jr., and Annie Ilonzeh—a racially integrated and gender-balanced group.

It was entertaining but there was nothing special about it. Always good to see female lead stuff but the whole plot completely lacks any sort of female viewpoint. But we're supposed to think that Riley's anger speaks for Los Angeles' fed-up, disenfranchised residents, as we see based on a flurry of tweets (showcased during the cops' official investigation of Riley's crimes) and one wall mural that's erected in the "Skid Row" part of town (identified as such by a Google Maps-like search, also during a police investigation). Riley's actions are supposedly justified by her self-image as a working class martyr. I really disliked the editing as well, it felt like it was edited in the style of a cheesy action film from the early 2000’s, especially the flashback scenes.

"There's nothing you can do about it," -Everyone in this movie, After Jennifer Garner's family (supposedly poor people that have two cars, live in a nice house, wear nice clothes, and have a preppy precocious daughter) is killed by Mexican drug dealers (did I mention they are Mexican because they are Mexican, and by that I mean they are movie Mexicans written and created by a white guy named Chad St. John), she encounters an insanely unrealistic criminal justice system that can do nothing for her and lets the killers go free forever. "Conservative" in a very broad, loose sense.
